Behind the Scenes with Midlands Air Ambulance: Why Local Support Matters More Than Ever

Back in July, our team laced up our boots for a charity football match with one goal in mind: supporting the incredible charity the Midlands Air Ambulance. Thanks to everyone who played, donated, and cheered us on, we managed to raise £2,550.00.

Recently, we were invited to visit their Airbase and Headquarters to hand over the donation in person and get a behind-the-scenes look at their operation.

Seeing the facility up close was an eye-opener. We see many helicopters overhead, but standing on the helipad and talking to the crew makes you realise just how extraordinary this operation really is.

Here are a few takeaways from our visit that show why this charity is so vital to our community:

  • Zero Government Funding: Despite working seamlessly alongside the NHS to respond to the most critical, life-threatening emergencies, the charity receives no government funding. Every single mission is funded by donations.
  • Hospital Care Brought to the Scene: Their helicopters and critical care cars aren’t just fast transport—they are mobile intensive care units. The crews carry specialised equipment and advanced medicines, allowing them to perform life-saving interventions right at the scene of an accident.
  • Relentless Innovation: Whether it’s upgrading medical gear, refining crew training, or expanding their ground fleet to cover bad weather, they are constantly finding new ways to improve response times and patient outcomes.

An emergency can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Knowing that this elite team is ready to respond in our worst moments is incredible, but keeping them in the air takes continuous community support.
